While I've been considering it to be summer for the last two weeks, yesterday was the official start of summer! I love summertime because the options are endless for fun things to do. The days are long, the weather is beautiful, and most people get at least a little time off from work. What's not to love?! I try to spend a lot of time outside in the summer on beautiful days, but there are some days when it is just too hot to go outside. My logic is that if it is over 90 degrees outside, I need to either be in water or in air conditioning. When water isn't an option, air conditioning is the way to go.
I've come up with a list of 10 things you can do in the summer when it is just too hot to go outside. As I was making this list, I realized that many of the things I came up with were things I used to do when I was little over summer vacation (and probably things my mom wanted to do when she didn't want to be outside in the heat). I also came up with things that are low-cost for all those fellow friends that are trying to stick to their budget! So here they are, 10 budget friendly things to do indoors in the summer:
Visit a New Museum
Try visiting a museum you haven't been to before. Many museums are free or have minimal entrance fees!
See a Movie at a Discount Theater
Odds are there is a hidden discount theater somewhere near you. Movie tickets are usually under $5 to see movies that have been out for a while.
Check Out Some New Beach-Reads at the Local Library
Find some books to take to the pool or beach with you next time it's a beautiful day and not too hot outside. Library books are free!
Go Window Shopping at a Fancy Mall
Window shopping can sometimes be dangerous when you don't want to spend money, but I find that when I window shop at a fancy mall full of designer stores where everything costs way more than I would ever be willing to spend, it can be fun!
Get a Pedicure
I feel like the older we get, the more we forget about bowling. Bowling can be so much fun with a small group of friends and is usually under $10 when you go during the afternoon.
Try a New Craft
Head to the local craft store and get a new craft to try! You could either look on Pinterest for ideas or buy a kit at the store. Don't forget to look at the store's website or app for coupons before you go, making your craft 40-50% off!
Make a Delicious No-Bake Sweet Treat
On those hot days, you probably don't want to turn on the oven. However, there are so many no-bake dessert recipes to choose from! Try to find a recipe that uses ingredients you already have around the kitchen so you don't need to make an extra grocery trip.
Try a New Workout Class
Is there a new workout that you've been interested in trying? Oftentimes studios offer a discount for a client's first class, so take advantage of that and finally try that workout! You make get pretty hot while doing it, but at least it's in air conditioning instead of going for a run outside.
Volunteer at a Local Charity
Why not spend the day helping others in need? Find a local charity you're passionate about and volunteer for the day. Maybe you could even make it a regular occurrence for the summer!
So next time you check the weather and see that it's going to be unbearably hot outside, try one of these ideas to stick to your budget and beat the heat!
