I recently shared my morning routine with all of you in the post How to Get Out of the House on Time. I think morning routines are the key to being able to sleep in as long as possible and still get ready and off to work on time. Who doesn't want to maximize their sleep time?! However, my morning routine would not be as successful if I didn't complete a few tasks before going to bed the night before. I'm going to share with you some of the things I do in order to set myself up for a good morning.
Choose an Outfit
Without a doubt, every time I am running late in the morning, it's because I can't decide what to wear. I end up changing my outfit at least three times and it sets me back an average of ten minutes. That's a lot of time when I'm trying to get ready in an hour! So one thing I try to do every night is choose an outfit for the next day. I also make sure I am happy with the outfit I choose. If you're not thrilled about the outfit you choose and you think, "oh maybe I'll feel like wearing this tomorrow," trust me, you won't. Pick an outfit you're happy with and you're way more likely to stick with it in the morning. Also, make sure you do any ironing the night before if your outfit is wrinkly!
Pack Your Bag
If you're anything like me, you have at least one additional bag to bring to work besides your purse. I make sure I have everything packed for work the night before so that I don't forget anything in my pre-coffee haze in the morning. Also, think about if you need anything for after work. Sometimes I go right to my workout after work, so I make sure to pack a (second) bag with workout clothes.
Pack Your Lunch
I don't always bring my lunch to work, but whenever I do, I make sure to pack it the night before. It leaves one less thing to worry about in the morning! I prepare everything and stick it in the fridge to grab on my way out the door. Just make sure you don't forget it! Also, same as with picking out your outfit, make sure you like what you pack for lunch. If the lunch doesn't sound good the night before, it won't sound any better when you go to eat it the next day.
Now, this is a completely optional task to complete to set yourself up for a good morning, but something I try to stick to every night. Before I go to bed, I like to tidy up my apartment. No major cleaning, but at least make sure all the dishes are washed, the counters are cleaned, and clutter is put away. I find that I end up in a much better mood in the morning when my apartment is clean rather than waking up to a mess. Tidying up the night before doesn't make more morning routine run smoother, but it certainly makes me feel better at 5:00 in the morning!
Think about what you can do before you go to bed to make your morning easier. Doing just a little bit of prep work before bed can save you a lot of time and stress in the morning!
